Julian visits Haxby fish and chip shop for Small Business Saturday 2017

December 1, 2017

Julian today paid a visit to the award-winning Millers fish and chip shop in Haxby to support the Small Business Saturday 2017 campaign. This annual event highlights the achievements of small businesses, and encourages people to support small enterprises across the UK.

Millers has been established in Haxby for 75 years, and is now run by Nick, David and Lesley Miller from the fourth generation of the family.

The shop won “Best in North East England” and third best nationally in the National Fish and Chip Awards 2017, and has again won the regional title and been entered into the national final for 2018. During the visit, Julian heard about their plans for the future, and their work in taking on local apprentices.

Following his visit, he said “I was delighted to visit Millers as part of Small Business Saturday 2017. Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy, and make a huge contribution to York and surrounding communities”.

Millers is continuing to serve up some of the best fish and chips in the country, and it’s great to see them flying the flag for Yorkshire in the final of the  National Fish and Chip Awards again this year.

Small Business Saturday is a very important reminder of the essential role small enterprises play in the UK economy. It is essential for government to provide an environment in which they can thrive, and create jobs and prosperity to benefit us all”.
