Julian Welcomes Chancellor’s Balanced Approach in Budget Announcement

Julian welcomed today’s Budget announcement; describing it as “a sensible balance between fiscal responsibility and optimistic investment”. The Chancellor of the Exchequer opened his statement by asserting that the UK’s deficit will fall to 2.3 per cent of GDP in 2017 as national debt will start falling next year as a share of national income.

My Plan to Secure a Better Future for York Outer

1. A Better NHS Deal for York and North Yorkshire

The national health funding formula still disadvantages York, and our elderly and rural population in particular. I will not stop campaigning on this until our city gets the funds it deserves.

2. Safeguarding York’s Greenbelt

Any development must strike a balance between local housing need and preserving the character of our area. I will continue to oppose speculative planning applications on green belt land.

3. Improving Our Transport Network

Local residents and businesses need improved transport infrastructure to keep our city moving. I will push for investment to upgrade the Outer Ring Road, A64, and deliver rail improvements.

4. Fairer Funding for Our Schools

York’s schools have not received their fair share of funding for far too long, and I am lobbying for this to be changed.

5. Broadband for All

Fast, affordable broadband for all is essential, and more has to be done to prevent our rural communities being left behind.

6. Flood Protection for York

I will work to ensure all our communities have the flood defences they need, and to see that overall flood risk is reduced in and around York.
