My Plan for York Outer

1. Investing in our transport system

I have successfully lobbied the government to agree to dual the A1237 Ring Road, am pressing for the widening of the A64, and for better rail links, to keep our bustling city on the move.

2. More resources for local schools

I have campaigned for and secured a per-pupil funding increase of 6.49% for York schools, and a cash boost of 7.5% for local special needs provision.

3. Securing York’s fair share of new NHS funding

The government is putting an extra £33.9 billion into the health service each year by 2023-24, and I will ensure our city gets its proper share, including for specialised services like mental health.

4. Protecting the local environment and York’s Greenbelt

We must safeguard our beautiful Yorkshire home from threats like plastic waste and inappropriate development. I will continue the fight against building near the unique Askham Bog site.

5. Supporting York’s economy and job creation

We must keep the local economy strong, sustaining current above-average jobs numbers by welcoming new business investment at the York Central site, and opening the new York Institute of Technology to equip young people for skilled jobs.

6. Backing Boris’s Brexit deal

I want to pass the Prime Minister’s new exit deal so we leave the EU in an orderly way, allowing us to escape the endless arguments and get on with delivering improvements to public services and local transport.
