Julian Visits Award Winning Miller’s Fish & Chips in Haxby

February 23, 2017

On Friday Julian met with Nick, David and Lesley Miller who run their family business, Miller’s Fish and Chips, from their shop in the centre of Haxby.

Miller’s Fish and Chips recently picked up the ‘Best in North East England’ title as well as third place for Independent Takeaway Fish & Chip Shop of the Year at the National Fish & Chip Awards 2017.

Nick is now the fourth generation of his family to be involved in the shop – going back 75 years – and the business is going from strength to strength.

During the visit Julian learnt about the changes which have been made to the shop over the past few years, as well as the two local apprentices that they have taken on.

Miller’s is one of only 80 fish and chip shops in the country who operate under the certified Marine Stewardship Council, which guarantees that all fish are sourced sustainably and responsibly.

Following the meeting Julian said, “It was an absolutely pleasure to meet with Nick, David, Lesley, and the staff at Miller’s Fish and Chips in Haxby. They all exuded enthusiasm and passion for the industry and it was brilliant to hear about their growing success and plans for the future.

“The quality of the food was outstanding, as many local residents will confirm, and it is great to see a family business in York Outer getting both regional and national recognition for the quality of their product and service. I wish the Miller family all the best for the future and encourage anyone who likes top quality fish & chips to give them a try – you’ll find yourself going back for more.”
