Julian applies for Westminster Hall debate on blue badge access to city centres
November 1, 2022
Julian has entered the ballot to hold a Westminster Hall debate on the crucial issue of blue badge access to town and city centres.
As many will know, this is incredibly relevant in York as blue badge holders face unfair restrictions which have made the city centre an effective no-go zone for many. This excludes many residents who have the right to equal access to their city centre and hurts businesses by limiting potential customers who now shop either in other towns or online.
Residents who have already received Julian’s most recent leaflet will be aware that he is collecting signatures for a petition he wishes to ultimately present to Parliament as part of my efforts to enshrine blue badge access into law. You can sign the petition here: https://backourcampaign.co.uk/cam…/keep-york-accessible…
In July, Julian raised blue badge restrictions in York with the Equalities Minister and will continue to lobby Ministers to shine a light on the discriminatory restrictions of City of York Council.
When applying for this Westminster Hall debate ballot, Julian also submitted an application for a debate about village bus services given the upcoming withdrawal of bus services from Rufforth and the uncertain future of the Number 11 service to Bishopthorpe.
Speaking about the debates, Julian said:
“Like any ballot, success is not guaranteed but I promise to reapply and continue lobbying on these important issues until all residents can access their city centre with ease.
I will not rest until this issue is resolved once and for all with protection under law to avoid it ever being repeated.
Ahead of these potential debates, if any constituents with to share their experience of the blue badge restrictions, how important their bus service is to them or how the withdrawal of a bus service has impacted them, please email me so I can share them with Ministers as part of my lobbying activity.”
