It has been a jam-packed couple of weeks since my last column where I had an opportunity to reflect on the Chancellor’s Budget. I want to begin by highlighting the fantastic news that inflation has dropped to 3.4 per cent – the lowest in two and a half years. When the Prime Minister came to

Julian Secures Meeting Over Future of Bishopthorpe Post Office

January 3, 2014

Later this month, Julian will be meeting with officials from the Post Office Ltd to discuss the future of their services in the village of Bishopthorpe.

He will be meeting with the Post Office Ltd’s Senior Stakeholder Manager for the North East to discuss the long term future of the wide ranging products and services they currently provide in the village. The meeting follows concerns raised by local residents that the company may be considering withdrawing its operations there.

Julian has been working closely with the local Ward Councillor, John Galvin, in lobbying the company to reveal more information about its long term plans for the village.

He has welcomed their decision to offer to meet with him to discuss the matter further, saying:

“I’m pleased to see that officials from the Post Office Ltd are taking these concerns seriously and I am hopeful that after a frank and honest discussion with the decision makers, I will be able to assist in securing the future of this vital rural service for the residents of Bishopthorpe and the surrounding communities.

“Post Offices are often at the very heart of our rural communities. Not only do they provide important postage, governmental and consumer services to their customers, they also often act as a social hub and a meeting place within the community. Together with the village shop and the local pub, they help to foster a sense of community identity and I would be extremely disappointed if Bishopthorpe were to lose this vitally important amenity. Over the coming weeks, I will therefore be doing all I can to secure a commitment from the Post Office’s executives that they will continue to provide the village with the service it deserves.”
