It has been a jam-packed couple of weeks since my last column where I had an opportunity to reflect on the Chancellor’s Budget. I want to begin by highlighting the fantastic news that inflation has dropped to 3.4 per cent – the lowest in two and a half years. When the Prime Minister came to

15th anniversary of the Yorkshire Regiment

June 6, 2021

Today marks the fifteenth anniversary of the formation of the Yorkshire Regiment, building on centuries of history upon the merger of The Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment of Yorkshire, The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment and The Green Howards.

Celebrating God’s Own County’s regiment gives us an opportunity to acknowledge the incredible service of members of our Armed Forces; whether it be on the frontline or in the new battle against coronavirus where they have provided logistical support and countless volunteer hours at vaccination sites. We should be truly thankful for all that they do and take pride that they fly the flag for Yorkshire wherever they’re deployed.

We also mark the anniversary of the D Day landings today, another reminder of the heroism, courage and sacrifice that exemplifies our Armed Forces. 77 years ago thousands of brave servicemen fought on the beaches of Normandy in a daring operation that would ultimately free Europe and the world of the evils of Nazism. Words cannot fully express how much we owe those involved and our eternal gratitude, especially for those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could live free from tyranny.

So, as our lives become busier and more hectic as lockdown eases, I invite everyone to pause for a moment to remember the heroes from past generations and the heroes from this generation who serve in our Armed Forces.
