BBC Radio York – Julian discusses Nestle Investment and Job Losses

Julian spoke to Georgey Spanswick on BBC Radio York to discuss the recent announcement that Nestle will be investing an additional £20.2 million into their York site to boost KitKat production via machine upgrades and efficiencies. Sadly these improvements mean that 98 workers will be made redundant.
£20 million is a significant investment to the York site and brings total investment by Nestle in our city to over half a billion pounds in the last 30 years. This is a clear commitment by Nestle that their future is tied to our city and that these improvements are to ensure production at York remains viable for many years.
Julian has also spoken directly with Nestle who gave me a firm commitment that the consultation process that will now begin will be thorough and meaningful, including engagement with workers and union representatives. Throughout this difficult time of uncertainty they have also promised to continually communicate effectively with workers so that they learn any developments direct from them first.
