Local Coronavirus Update

February 26, 2021

It is incredible news that nearly sixty thousand people in York have received a dose of a coronavirus vaccine contributing towards the world leading total of over eighteen million vaccines administered nationwide. This means one in three adults have now been inoculated.

Within the Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group area, 98.6% of those over 70 have received a jab. Over 60% of York residents in the 5th vaccine priority group (all over 65s) have been contacted for an appointment, and GP practices have also moved on to notifying priority group 6 (16 to 65 years with at-risk medical condition) in line with vaccine deliveries.

Yesterday an additional vaccination centre with the capacity to administer 1000 vaccines per week was launched at the old Boots site in Haxby by local community pharmacy chain Citywide Health. This is in addition to the existing site being run by the Haxby Group as well as the vaccination centre at Askham Bar.

If you believe you know someone who has been overlooked for a vaccine appointment, those 65 or over, on the Shielded Patient List or a frontline health or social care worker can book a test here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/
