Julian visits Poppleton pharmacy as national pharmacy flu vaccination programme begins

Last Friday, Julian called in at Poppleton Pharmacy in Upper Poppleton to mark the beginning of this year’s national flu vaccination service.
Community pharmacy teams across the country are now offering NHS flu jabs in the lead-up to winter, often with no appointment required. The free service is available to everyone in designated ‘higher risk’ groups, such as older people and those with certain medical conditions, like asthma and diabetes.
After visiting Poppleton, Julian said: “I was pleased to visit such an accessible flu vaccination service, which I am sure will be of great reassurance to many local residents as we head towards winter.
We are very lucky to have a strong network of community pharmacies in York and North Yorkshire. I would urge all those who are eligible for a free flu jab to consider getting one as soon as is convenient, to keep their health robust during the cold weather.
I will continue to pay close attention to the needs of our local health services on behalf of residents.”
About the pharmacy flu vaccination scheme:
All adults aged 65 years and over, and those aged 18 years or over and in clinical risk groups, can receive a free of charge NHS flu jab at community pharmacies across the country, often without the need for an appointment.
People in at-risk groups include pregnant women and those with certain medical conditions including asthma and diabetes. Pharmacists will be using the same vaccination as those offered by GPs and they notify the person’s GP practice when they have vaccinated them.
