Julian supports workers following Nestle jobs announcement

Julian has called for support for workers following yesterday’s announcement that Nestle will be consulting over proposals which could see 143 factory workers and a further 23 in technical, warehouse and transport side of the company face redundancy.
Julian understands these proposals have been made to rebalance Nestle’s local operations, and they expect that any job losses would be achieved through voluntary redundancies. This is nevertheless an extremely concerning time for workers and their families.
Since the announcement, Julian has contacted Nestle and been in correspondence with the Secretary of State for Business, Greg Clark. Julian has sought assurances that workers in York will be supported and kept informed of any developments, and asked that the Secretary of State take a personal interest in this issue.
Julian commented:
“I was extremely disappointed and concerned to hear of these proposals from Nestle. While this announcement is subject to consultation at this stage, I want to see all efforts made to support those who could be impacted by these proposals.
York has a proud history of manufacturing going back many decades. It is therefore vital that Nestle remains a strong local business so it can continue to provide jobs and security for families in York.
I will be doing everything I can to support those affected and would be happy to provide updates to residents, as well as feeding their views into the ongoing discussion”.
