York Press column: All action ahead of Easter

It has been a jam-packed couple of weeks since my last column where I had an opportunity to reflect on the Chancellor’s Budget. I want to begin by highlighting the fantastic news that inflation has dropped to 3.4 per cent – the lowest in two and a half years. When the Prime Minister came to

What Are Local People Saying About Julian’s Work?

More and more local people are getting behind Julian Sturdy’s campaign for re-election as the York Outer MP. They want Julian to continue to be the strong voice that our local communities need.

Mrs L Johnson, Osbaldwick

Here’s what Mrs L Johnson of Osbaldwick said about Julian in a letter to the Prime Minister, David Cameron:

Dear Mr Cameron,

I would like to commend Mr Julian Sturdy of the York Outer constituency.

Mr Sturdy has really taken to heart the concerns of his constituents. Since his election I have had the opportunity to go to two public meetings, have had regular updates on the progress he is making, and had several questionnaires to complete so that he knows what his constituents really think when working with our local council.

I really feel I am being represented for the first time in my life. I have never voted Conservative in any election, either local or national, but I will certainly vote for Mr Sturdy in May.

Kexby Wind Turbine protestTracy Shillito, Kexby:

Mr Sturdy’s support for our campaign against the 78m wind turbine proposed in Kexby has been tremendous, from his regular letters, visits to our home, attendance at our residents’ meetings and even speaking on our behalf at the Planning Committee Meeting where it was thankfully refused. In turn he will now have my continued support come the election in May.

Kevin Smith, Earswick:

Julian, I just wanted to say thank you, to you and your team, for the outstanding work you’re doing to stave off the worst effects of the absurd Local Plan.

Your regular communications are timely, packed with relevant information and succinctly presented; you inspire confidence and a belief that the important issues are being tackled.

Rosey Dunn, Parish Councillor, Stockton on the Forest:barr lane w.parish cllrs

On behalf of Stockton on the Forest and Hopgrove residents, may I take this opportunity to thank you very much for taking our concerns over the proposed closure of Barr Lane so seriously. Without your intervention, I have little doubt that the Highways Agency would have completely ignored local opinion and pushed ahead with their ill thought-through plans to close the road indefinitely. Many thanks again and best of luck in May!

Pauline McSweeney, Rufforth (as featured in the Press’ letters page):

I wish to congratulate and heartily thank Julian Sturdy for his tireless work to help the tethered and abandoned horses left to fend for themselves in all weathers on our roadsides.

That someone cares enough about these poor horses to ensure this effective enforcement is just inspirational to horse lovers and, ultimately, gives hope for animal welfare everywhere.

I have to say that we have never had such support from anyone in the past and I have lived here all my life.

Ms H Parkin, Heworth Without:

I for one truly appreciate your hard work and determination in protecting our greenbelt… you really care about York. Keep up the good work Julian.

Ms M McCabe, Bishopthorpe:

Dear Mr Sturdy,

I am writing to let you know that the street light on Maple Avenue has been reconnected. You have managed to do in two weeks something the Council could not or would not do in six months! It is very much appreciated by all the tenants in the avenue.

Mr R Bellini, Woodthorpe:Family shot

You and your family must be so proud of what you have achieved and accomplished. On behalf of my family, may I thank you for all your effort, and the team around you.
