York leads the way as unemployment continues to fall
January 21, 2015
Julian welcomes today’s news that unemployment in York falls for the tenth month in a row.
According to the Office for National Statistics, unemployment across the country has dropped to below 6% for the first time in six years. In York Outer, the number of people claiming out of work benefits has dropped from over a 1,000 in May 2010 to around 300 in December 2014.
Reacting to the news, Julian said “It is fantastic news that unemployment in York continues to fall, and in my constituency the number of people out of work is less than a third of what it was just five years ago.
“York is clearly leading the way in the North and there are now far greater career opportunities for young people than before. Eight out of ten of the new jobs being created are in full time work and we must continue to make sure that everyone benefits from the improving economy.“
