Wyre Pond Appeal
August 23, 2022
Several concerned constituents have written to Julian regarding the dire state of Wyre Pond after prolonged warm weather and limited rainfall have left little water for local wild life.
The immediate concern is with a hosepipe ban due to begin on Friday and substantial rainfall not forecast for some time, the pond will completely dry up and the duck population will suffer.
We are asking if any businesses, farmers and residents can assist in filling up the pond. While we do not expect to completely fill the pond, any increase to water levels would be beneficial to help protect the wildlife – especially the ducklings who do not have the option of flying to find water.
Looking ahead to the future, local residents have begun exploring how to protect the future of the pond including assessing if any repair work is required and receiving a quote from Yorkshire Water to install a stand pipe.
Julian will liaise with residents and the Parish Council while sharing community funding grants available through the National Lottery and other schemes.
Wyre Pond is a treasured community asset and we must work together to protect the pond for the future.
