Restart Scheme in York
February 4, 2023
On Friday, Julian visited Reed in Partnership who work with the DWP to help administer the Restart Scheme in York.
The Restart Scheme is a specific programme designed to help those who have been out of work for nine months or longer to pick up the skills they need for the modern workforce, fill the local vacancies vital for our economic recovery, and get the experience and confidence to find a suitable job and build sustainable careers.
Within its first year, the Restart Scheme supported 16,500 people in the North East and Humberside region. A year later and they have worked with even more people in York to help get them back into the workplace.
Speaking after a visit to Reed in Partnership’s Monks Cross office, Julian said:
“In York Outer we are very lucky to have a very low claimant count – 1.2% of the population aged 16-64 compared to 3.7% nationally – but more can still be done.
Employment can be a great source of personal confidence and we must do all we can to help those who have been out of the job market for a significant period gain the skills to find work.
I hope to meet with Reed in Partnership in a year’s time to hear about another successful year of helping York residents back into work.”
