Julian welcomes York coronavirus vaccination centre at Askham Bar
December 21, 2020
Having pressed the Health Secretary via a written parliamentary question earlier this month on the timeline for opening a York vaccination centre, I am delighted eligible residents will begin receiving their vaccine locally this week.
The initial wave of vaccinations was being directed for our region from Leeds and Hull, so I know it will be a huge reassurance for the city that we now have the vaccine being delivered on the ground at a dedicated local site.
Given the current grim news ahead of a virus-damaged Christmas, the roll-out of the vaccine in York is an important ray of hope.
York residents can now hope to be vaccinated in order of vulnerability, with care home residents and staff, the very elderly, and health workers rightly at the top of the list.
Once we have come through the current virus surge, and the most vulnerable are protected by vaccine, we will then have more options as to how we can start to return to normal life, so the opening of the Askham Bar site represents a crucial step on the road back to normality.”
