It has been a jam-packed couple of weeks since my last column where I had an opportunity to reflect on the Chancellor’s Budget. I want to begin by highlighting the fantastic news that inflation has dropped to 3.4 per cent – the lowest in two and a half years. When the Prime Minister came to

Julian supports Small Business Saturday

November 30, 2018

Julian Sturdy, Member of Parliament for York Outer, has once again supported the ‘Small Business Saturday’ initiative, this year visiting Swains butchers based in Copmanthorpe. Small Business Saturday celebrates the contribution of small and medium sized businesses across the country.

Julian regularly meets with local businesses to learn more about the important work they do and to better inform his work in Westminster. Small Business Saturday gives Julian the opportunity to highlight the fantastic range of services on offer right on our doorstep.

This year Julian visited Swains Butchers in Copmanthorpe. Swains is a family business, founded in 1972 which operates from two locations, one in Copmanthorpe and the other at Newgate Market in the City Centre. Julian was able to see the vast range of high quality products on sale to residents and meet the fantastic team of expert butchers.

Commenting Julian said:

“Small Business Saturday is a fantastic initiative which highlights the great independent businesses in our communities that we all rely on.

York Outer comprises heavily of small and medium sized villages and this makes the small businesses in their area that much more important.

Swains provide a high quality service in both Copmanthorpe and Newgate Market and I was delighted to pop by and see the team at work. It is clear to see the passion the Swains’ team have for their work and this undoubtedly is on display with the range of products on sale.

It is a challenging time for the high-street across the country, so I would strongly encourage residents to buy local and make use of these great community assets, particularly as we enter the Christmas season”.
