Julian supports Rare Disease Day
February 28, 2023
To mark Rare Disease Day, Julian attended the Rare Disease reception in Parliament hosted by Genetic Alliance UK.
The objective of this reception to raise awareness of Mitochondrial Disease in the UK through parliamentarians, patients, and health professionals having the opportunity to discuss the challenges faced by those living with such rare conditions.
Julian notes that York Outer is ranked in the top 20 for the number of adults and children living with these very rare and life changing conditions. He believes it is important that we see more engagement in this field of study and we advance health equity to improve the lives of those living with challenging diseases.
Everyone regardless of their condition deserves to live life to the fullest and it is only right that we keep raising awareness and investing in vital research to help people live their lives and fulfil their potential.
Following the event Julian commented,
“It was important for me to attend this event in the knowledge that York Outer is in the top 20 constituencies with people living with the challenges attached to these incredibly rare conditions.
I will be submitting a series of Written Questions to the Secretary of State for Health and Social to enquire what further measures the Government can take to ensure that we invest in ensuring that people with such conditions are properly supported”.
