Julian supports improved access to NHS dentistry
June 9, 2023
Julian was pleased to attend a reception in Parliament hosted by the British Dental Association on NHS Dentistry.
This was a great opportunity for MPs to meet with the British Dental Association and each other to discuss the challenges that their constituents are facing in regards to accessing NHS dental care.
There is a united consensus that the dental sector needs significant reforms, primarily surrounding the NHS dental care contracts that are no longer sustainable and the workforce. Julian has really appreciated the engagement and interest that the Minister for Primary Care and Public Health, Neil O’Brien MP, has given to our situation in York, especially in our discussions with the Integrated Care Board (ICB) in relation to the closure of Bupa Dental Care Holgate Park.
Julian is encouraged by the conversations that he has with the Minister and welcomes his desire to make an announcement in the House of Commons before 20th July that will outline the Government’s short-term plan to reform and support dental care.
Julian continues to liaise with the Integrated Care Board on the issue of dental care provision in York and will keep working hard to raise awareness of the challenges we face at home.
Following the event, Julian commented,
“It was great to meet with representatives from the British Dental Association and Parliamentary colleagues of all parties to discuss the challenges in relation to NHS dentistry within our respective constituencies.
Over recent months, I have engaged with the Minister responsible for dental care and our local ICB to raise awareness of the challenges that we face in York and have worked hard to ensure that the ICB honour their responsibility to recommission the contract formerly held by Bupa Dental Care in Holgate Park.
There is much work to be done and I welcome the fact that the Minister is very aware and invested in our local situation. I very much look forward to hearing the Government’s plan in due course”.
