Julian supports Designer Outlet in their ambition to create more local jobs
August 27, 2023
Julian met with Paul Tyler, Centre Manager at McCarthurGlen Designer Outlet, to discuss plans for the fast approaching festive period as well as their ambitions to build two new anchor tenant units to continue the growth of the shopping centre.
Since the pandemic, the Designer Outlet has bounced back and attracted new brands to help push the centre close to one hundred percent occupancy. Visitor numbers are also strong and will only increase as Christmas nears.
The designer outlet is not just a fantastic asset for York’s shoppers but also one of the largest employers in our city. It is estimated close to one in five retail jobs in York are based at the centre so Julian is keen to do all he can to support their efforts to expand.
Speaking after the visit, Julian said:
“It is always great to meet with Paul and discuss future plans for the centre. I remember visiting during the pandemic to see how they were adapting to covid restrictions and it is fantastic to see how far they have come since then.
I am unequivocal in my support for the Designer Outlet and their plans to grow. It means more jobs for York and a stronger local economy. I hope City of York Council is equally enthusiastic and works with Paul to ensure all necessary planning permissions are secured.”
