Julian saddles up for National Horserace Week

September 6, 2023

Julian attended the British Horseracing Authority’s Parliamentary reception this week to celebrate the British horseracing sector. The reception gave him the opportunity to speak with various representatives and stakeholders from within this vibrant sector that contributes so much to York’s economy.

The event also allowed key stakeholders within the industry to raise concerns and challenges with MPs and the Minister for Sport. These included sports funding and the potential implications of the Government’s Gambling White paper, namely the affordability checks . It also enabled key stakeholders to showcase the very best of British racing and show MPs what funding from the Horserace Betting Levy does to help within the sport.

After the reception, Julian commented:

“We need to work hard to ensure that the British horse racing sector continues to have a sustainable, prosperous, and competitive future, along with providing employment opportunities, contributing to the economy, and ensuring enjoyment for all.

“I enjoyed talking to young aspiring jockeys and hearing about their passion for the industry and the sport itself. It gives me hope for the long term future of horse racing in York and across the country”
