Julian reacts to York’s unsuccessful Levelling Up fund bids

January 20, 2023

It is incredibly disappointing to learn this week that both of York’s levelling up bids were unsuccessful. The riverside redevelopment will revitalise the city centre economy and the boost to active travel routes would have only added to the accessibility of Haxby Railway Station.

Detailed feedback is provided to all unsuccessful bids so I hope to work with City of York Council and stakeholders across the city to ensure future bids have a better outcome.

York is at a crossroads with many key regeneration projects ahead of us. We must get them right as they will chart the future success of our city.

York Central, Coney Street riverside and Castle Gateway, to name a few, will add billions to our local economy, provide high quality jobs and homes for thousands of families. Quite simply they will change the face of York and
position the city as a leader in the north.

Work to progress these redevelopments from ideas to reality will continue and I will champion every project in Parliament so the Government what it means for residents and our future. While this week may have been disappointing, it is not the end and I will keep banging the drum for our city.
