Julian praises Green Business in Yorkshire for Climate Week
March 9, 2013
Julian has today delivered a message for Climate Week 2013 and hailed the contribution of green businesses to the local economy in Yorkshire.
Climate Week is Britain’s biggest climate change campaign, culminating in a week of activities, which showcases practical solutions to the problems arising from climate change from every sector of society.
Commenting on Climate Week 2013, Julian said:
“Climate Week 2013 offers a great chance to look not only at the environmental but also the economic benefit of going green. In Yorkshire alone there are 3,741 green companies employing 67,871 people. In total £855.2million is contributed to UK exports from Yorkshire-based green companies. Businesses across our region clearly have a very important role in helping to drive energy efficiency and generate growth and jobs. I commend them for their fantastic contribution to our great County.
“With the UK able to boast of having the sixth largest share of the global green business market at £122 billion, I’m really glad the government are taking further steps to help the UK capture an even greater share of this market. And through energy efficiency schemes like the government’s ‘Green Deal’, people will have the chance to save money on their energy bills by reducing the need to spend so much to stay warm.”
