York Press column: All action ahead of Easter

It has been a jam-packed couple of weeks since my last column where I had an opportunity to reflect on the Chancellor’s Budget. I want to begin by highlighting the fantastic news that inflation has dropped to 3.4 per cent – the lowest in two and a half years. When the Prime Minister came to

Julian meets with UK’s leading kidney patient support charity to discuss organ donation

September 17, 2023

Julian met with Kidney Care UK in Westminster to discuss organ donation as part of of Organ Donation Week, 18-24 September.

Currently there are 121 people on the transplant list in need of a kidney transplant in York Outer.

More than 20 people who have either experienced the life changing impact of a kidney transplant, have donated a kidney or who are waiting for a transplant joined them. The National Medical Director of NHS England, Professor Sir Stephen Powis and presenter DJ Ace, a kidney transplant recipient himself, were also in attendance.

Fiona Loud, Policy Director at Kidney Care UK, added: “We’re delighted that Julian was able to join us at Westminster to talk about the importance of organ donation. Right now, more than 7,000 people are waiting for a transplant in the UK, the highest in nine years – we need to come together, increase public awareness of need and ensure this number is reduced. We encourage everyone to talk to your families about organ donation.”

Anthony Clarkson, Director of Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation at NHS Blood and Transplant says: “This Organ Donation Week we’re urging everyone to confirm their support for organ donation on the NHS Organ Donor Register. Families will still always be consulted before organ donation goes ahead and we know that 9 out of 10 families will agree to support organ donation if their loved one has confirmed their decision to donate on the register. The more people who make their decision known on the NHS Organ Donor Register, the more families will support that decision and the more lives will be saved.
