York Press column: All action ahead of Easter

It has been a jam-packed couple of weeks since my last column where I had an opportunity to reflect on the Chancellor’s Budget. I want to begin by highlighting the fantastic news that inflation has dropped to 3.4 per cent – the lowest in two and a half years. When the Prime Minister came to

Julian meets with Thomas Pocklington Trust

February 13, 2023

Julian remains committed to his campaign to make York accessible to all residents and recently met the Thomas Pocklington Trust to discuss how blue badge restrictions have impacted the blind and visually impaired.

It is clear that even if some restrictions remain for the wider public, the lack of flexibility for blue badge drivers is unjustifiable especially when other cities have invested in systems that have allowed continued access.

The Trust also highlighted how restrictions and the continually changing layout on Parliament Street can make the city centre confusing for the visually impaired who often memorise their routes. The reappearance of A boards and a minority of inconsiderate pavement cafes have only made our city feel less welcoming.

Speaking after the meeting, Julian said:

“More must be done to make York accessible to all and I will work stakeholders across the city to ensure no residents feels they cannot enjoy our city centre.

If the restrictions have impacted you, please get in contact to discuss how I can help.”
