Julian meets with new Heslington data technology business
December 10, 2020
Last week, Julian had an interesting and productive online meeting with Hublsoft, a new tech business based on the York University campus.
Hublsoft aims to simplify the world of ‘big data’, and help customers to extract value from their own data, competing directly with the major American tech firms in this important and growing market. Founded in 2019, the business already exports 90% of its services to the United States. The business has recently secured £2 million of investment, which will enable it to expand from 13 to 30 staff locally.
After the call, Julian said: “Given the pandemic and the serious knock-on economic impact, it was really encouraging to speak to the ambitious and enthusiastic team at Hublsoft, and hear about their plans to bring new high-skill jobs and growth to our city.
I was particularly impressed that so many of their sales come from exports to the competitive American tech market, which really shows that York enterprises can be world-class.
The economic hit from covid, and the serious impact on important York sectors like tourism and hospitality make it all the more important to ensure that we maintain and develop a diverse, high-skill economy locally, and there is a serious responsibility on myself and all local decisionmakers to get behind new enterprises like Hublsoft, and do all we can to help them thrive.”
The Hublsoft team said: “We enjoyed a lively and interesting conversation with Julian Sturdy MP on Friday. We discussed the increasingly important role tech innovation and businesses like Hublsoft play at a regional and national level.”
