Julian meets with Heslington Parish Council about proposed cycle path to Wheldrake
September 30, 2022
While the cycle path would be a great asset, removing the need for cyclists to cycle along dangerous roads near Crockey Hill, the route must work for those coming into the city as well as those cycling out. Plus, it must not negatively impact the communities along the route.
There has been a campaign for some time to establish a cycle path between Wheldrake and Heslington, with leading cycling charity Sustrans having published a report estimating the costs of building the route.
Earlier this year, the Liberal Democrat and Green Party administration at City of York Council withdrew funding it had allocated for the route from a grant for Active Travel schemes from the Conservative Government.
Julian has written to the Department of Transport and Active Travel England to seek further funding to help make the Wheldrake to Heslington cycle path a reality.
