Julian meets with CEO of NHS Trust as part of York health audit

Last week, Julian met with Simon Morritt, CEO of York & Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as part of his audit of York’s health services.
High on the agenda for discussion was A&E wait times, delays discharging patients, and how general practice could work more closely to assist York Hospital. Also discussed was the long-term need for a new hospital to service York outside the city centre for better access.
While staffing has played a role in the current pressures at Accident and Emergency, Simon also explained that the annual flu spike came months earlier than usual which exacerbated difficulties. Furthermore, it has proved increasing difficult to put in place adequate plans to discharge patients who do not need further medical treatment but do require some care.
Speaking after the meeting, Julian said:
“I really appreciate Simon taking the time to share his insights and giving me an overview of the reality on the ground of hospital care in York.
I look forward to working with him to progress the long-term ambition of a new hospital for York but in the short-term
