York Press column: All action ahead of Easter

It has been a jam-packed couple of weeks since my last column where I had an opportunity to reflect on the Chancellor’s Budget. I want to begin by highlighting the fantastic news that inflation has dropped to 3.4 per cent – the lowest in two and a half years. When the Prime Minister came to

Julian meets with BUPA following announcement of closure of York site

April 19, 2023

Julian has met with Bupa to discuss their planned closure of Bupa York Dental Care at Holgate Park.

This announcement has understandably caused significant concern to Julian’s constituents who use the practice to receive NHS dental care.

Bupa remains committed that all current treatments up until the 30th June will be prioritised, yet routine check-ups may face disruption. However, as it stands patients should assume that their appointments up until 30th June are going ahead unless they are contacted by the practice.

Additionally, several constituents have registered their concern for employees, and Julian received assurances that Bupa is committed to supporting them either by reallocating them to another practice or part of the Bupa community where possible.

Julian has written to our local Integrated Care Board (ICB) in the hope of meeting with them to discuss the provision of dental care for York. Despite having more dentists in the sector we have seen a substantial drop in the willingness to carry out NHS dental work which is why Julian will argue we desperately need to see workforce data analysed.

Julian is meeting with Minister Neil O’Brien MP in May to discuss the challenges the dental sector faces as well as visiting a selection of dental care practices in York that provide NHS treatment.
