It has been a jam-packed couple of weeks since my last column where I had an opportunity to reflect on the Chancellor’s Budget. I want to begin by highlighting the fantastic news that inflation has dropped to 3.4 per cent – the lowest in two and a half years. When the Prime Minister came to

Julian Lobbies the Council to Apply for Ring Road Upgrade Funding

April 22, 2016

Julian has been in correspondence with the City of York Council continuing his campaign to dual the northern ring road.

As every resident of York will know, the A1237 is one of the city’s most congested roads even out of peak times. The gridlock is immensely frustrating for residents and also affects local businesses as well as those who might be considering investing in York.

Julian recently wrote to the Council to ask them to consider submitting a bid to the Local Majors Fund which was announced by the Chancellor in the Autumn Statement. The Fund gives an opportunity for local authorities to apply for funding for key infrastructure projects which would normally be out of reach for Council budgets alone.

The Council’s Head of Transport has advised Julian that they are now looking at the detail of the bidding process, and are aiming to submit a bid through the Local Enterprise Partnership.

Commenting Julian said, “Dualling the Outer Ring Road is critical to York’s future. At present I see it as a noose around the city’s neck limiting economic growth, disincentivising businesses from relocating to York, and inconveniencing residents on a daily basis.

“Upgrading this key part of York’s transport infrastructure is not just important for York, but is integral to the development of the wider regional economy.”
