Julian lobbies Chancellor for support for pubs and breweries ahead of Autumn Statement
November 3, 2023
Julian has written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer calling for targeted support to help York’s economy.
Along with Alun Cairns MP and supporters of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group , he has written to the Chancellor asking for more support for our pubs and breweries. York is famous for our hostelries and we make some of the best beer in country here in Yorkshire (many pints of which are brewed at Ainsty Ales in Acaster Malbis) but prices are rising and more must be done to level the playing field against the supermarkets.
Their main requests are:
- An extension of the current 75% Retail, Hospitality, and Leisure(RHL) business rates relief after 31st March 2024, combined with a freeze in the current multiplier.
- Increase the £110,000 RHL scheme cap.
- Scrap planned increases to beer duty.
- Widen the draught duty differential further.
