York Press column: All action ahead of Easter

Julian joins rally for victims of infected blood scandal

March 1, 2024

Julian was proud to join victims, families, and fellow Members of Parliament who backed Diana Johnson MP’s amendment to the Victim and Prisoners Bill to expediate the payment of compensation to those impacted by the infected blood scandal.

The rally in Westminster Hall was especially significant for me as it gave Julian an opportunity to meet with affected constituents who he has been conversing with via telephone call and email for some months.

Last year, Julian rebelled against the Government to vote for Diana’s amendment to expedite compensation to infected blood victims. The Government are waiting for the publication of an independent report later this year but with preliminary conclusions already public Julian feels there is no time to waste. Some victims have been waiting over forty years and Julian feels that a delay of even just a further few months is unwarranted.

He will work cross-party with the other Members of Parliament who attended the rally in Westminster Hall to ensure infected blood victims receive compensation as soon as possible.
