York Press column: All action ahead of Easter

Julian joins Let Fans In campaign to support York City FC and other non-league sides

August 18, 2020

Julian is delighted to support Dame Cheryl Gillan MP and Tracey Crouch MP’s campaign to allow football fans to attend matches to provide a vital source of revenue for non-league football clubs, such as York City FC.

Unlike teams further up the football league hierarchy that can rely on broadcast and sponsorship revenue, non-league football sides require gate and refreshment earnings to remain financially viable.

While Julian appreciates the challenges of getting a larger number of supporters back into League stadia, especially due to fans having to travel using public transport to and from their clubs, non-League clubs tend to be supported by those within the town itself. Given we are now allowing indoor activities to resume in a Covid-safe way, Julian simply does not understand why non-League football clubs in outdoor stadia cannot allow their small but loyal fans back in through the gates.

Along with other colleagues, Julian will continue to lobby the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to support York City FC and other non-league football clubs.
