Julian has liver scan to promote early diagnosis
January 16, 2024
Julian was pleased to attend the Parliamentary Liver Awareness Day event hosted by the British Liver Trust on 16 January.
The aim of this event was to increase awareness of the British Liver Trust’s ‘make early diagnosis of liver disease routine’ campaign amongst Members of Parliament.
Early diagnosis is so incredibly important for any disease, and this is further emphasised by the fact that 90 per cent of liver disease is preventable. However, the sad reality is that ¾ cirrhosis patients are diagnosed at crisis point. This is something that we all must work to improve.
Unfortunately, many people have early stages of liver disease but are unaware of it. Identifying liver disease at an early stage enables you to act and prevent it from getting progressively worse. Furthermore, through early diagnosis, you are more likely to be successfully treated and potentially reverse some of the damage incurred.
At the event, Julian took a liver scan, and saw just how quick, easy, and painless it is. The Fibroscan measures how stiff your liver is, with a healthy liver expected to be soft and squishy.
Julian is proud to support the British Liver Trust’s vital campaign to save lives through prevention and early diagnosis of liver disease and liver cancer.
Following the event Julian commented,
“I was pleased to attend the British Liver Trust Parliamentary event and undertake a liver scan.
“It is so important that we work hard to increase awareness around liver disease and cancer, along with the importance of prioritising prevention and early diagnosis.
“It is so important to identify liver disease early, with 90 per cent of liver disease being preventable. Livers can repair a lot of damage, however, they can only take so much, so we must consciously look after them and a quick and easy liver scan is the best way to start”.
