Julian catches up with Barclays Team in Haxby

June 2, 2023

Following their move from the Barclays Banking Van to a new hub in the refurbished Oaken Grove Community Centre, Julian met with the Barclays banking team to discuss their first year of assisting customers outside a traditional branch.

Haxby Barclays branch closed last summer as part of wider restructuring plans by the bank. At the time, Julian called for the bank to offer some continuation of service by scheduling visits from the Barclays banking van that is used in more rural parts of North Yorkshire.

Following his intervention, Barclays pledged to have the van visit Haxby to ensure residents who could not travel into the city centre and wanted to discuss banking matters face to face could still receive service.

After his most recent visit, Julian said:

“It was great to hear that the Barclays service have been busy lately but it is important to use this service if we want to keep it for the community.

While the Post Office can cover most day-to-day services, Barclays staff at the library can cover bespoke services offered by the bank.

The key to making sure this service remains and is a success is to ensure residents know about it. Please do spread the word so Haxby and surrounding communities can continue to enjoy this service”
