EFRA Select Committee Launches Inquiry into Covid-19 and the Food Supply

April 14, 2020

Julian currently serves on Parliament’s Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee, responsible for scrutinising government actions in thiese crucial areas.

The EFRA Select Committee want to hear from the general public on their experiences of accessing food during the ongoing outbreak, to inform their new inquiry into ‘Covid-19 and food supply’.

This inquiry is meant to analyse current issues with food supply, what is going well and what needs to be improved, and will hopefully provide some useful advice as all public authorities continue to address the emergency, in collaboration with charities and food producers.

Julian encourages York residents to submit their experiences to the online survey. This can be completed in under 10 minutes, and is open until 28th April.

To be comprehensive, the inquiry needs to hear from a wide range of people and experiences, ranging from in-person and online shopping, to those medically vulnerable people receiving food parcels to protect them against contact with others, and those who have struggled to get deliveries, or run up against shortages in supermarkets.

The current emergency has shown everyone is united in their need for accessible and healthy food. As movement restrictions continue, government, food producers and charities all need to ensure we are improving provision and coordination, so that everyone is getting the food they need, and the vulnerable are safeguarded.

Residents can access the online survey at https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx…

Details of the inquiry can be accessed on the Committee website at https://committees.parliament.uk/…/217/covid19-and-food-su…/
